4. Check out the Cumberland Food Share!

In partnership, Cumberland Community School Society (CCSS) and Weird Church have created Cumberland Food Share: a two part way to provide support for individuals and families in Cumberland facing food insecurity. With support from the Village of Cumberland, Lush Valley Food Action Society and the Comox Valley Food Policy Council, this new program distributes food safely to Cumberland families and individuals in need of support during COVID-19 (and hopefully beyond!).

This is a two part program:

  1. The Food Shed: Thanks to Cumberland Crate Company, Courtenay Glass Ltd., Cumberland Village Works, Gareth Adams, and Vig Schulman, there is now an outdoor, non-perishable food pantry available 24/7 at 2688 Penrith Ave! It is the hope and prayer of Weird Church that our neighbours who have some food to spare will add to it, and that neighbours who are in need might take what they need. Email us to become a part of the Team!

  2. Healthy Food Boxes: Weekly hampers for community members who are experiencing challenges due to loss of income and inability to access food, especially those who have lost access to the Breakfast and Lunch Programs available through CCSS. To address this community need, Cumberland Food Share will purchase, sort and distribute boxes which will include food, gift cards, and supplies to those who have expressed need.

We need your help to make this program work!

There are three ways to help:

  1. Financial Donations: we are currently seeking financials resources to purchase food and gift cards! Donations can be made online via our Canada Helps page: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/cumberland-community-schools-society/

or by sending an e-transfer to ccss.coordinator@gmail.com. (If you send an e-transfer please include your mailing address so we can issue a tax receipt.)

  2. Physical Donations: please bring not expired shelf stable non-perishable food items, diapers, wipes, personal hygiene products, and cleaning supplies and place them in the Food Shed for those in need to receive at their convenience.

  3. Volunteering Opportunities: There is a team that shops and stocks the Food Shed monthly - to help with the Food Shed please email info@weirdchurchcumberland.com. To register as a volunteer to deliver Healthy Food Boxes, please do so BY CLICKING HERE.
