About Trish McPhail:
Trish McPhail
I respectfully acknowledge that the land we gather on is on the unceded territory of the K'omoks First Nation, the traditional keepers of this land. Hello my name is Trish McPhail, I am from the Kitasoo and Heiltsuk Nations. I love living in the Comox Valley and have been a visitor in this beautiful land of plenty for over three decades. I was adopted and only found out as an adult that I was a Scoop Baby, I was taken against my mother's will and given to a non-indigenous family and so I missed out growing up with the teachings of our traditional ways of life. I am now learning about our remarkable culture along side my children and I am happy to say that we have been reunited with many of our relatives, including my birth mother. What I have come to understand is that there is a blood memory that is so strong, that our beautiful way of being is woven into the core fibres of who we are. Knowing where you come from helps us walk taller and embracing who we are speaks volumes of our incredible resilience. By sharing a small piece of my story I am a part of the chain of cycle breakers. May we all move forward together in a good way while we revisit the true history of Canada and unlearn and then we can bridge gaps and build meaningful relationships with the original First Nations Peoples of these lands with compassion, empathy , a more unbiased perspective and with heartfelt purpose.
