A 45 minute session of music, with some guiding prompts to ease tension and centre on peace and love in a place of waiting.
In the Christian tradition, the week that leads up to Easter is called Holy Week and includes Maundy Thursday (when Jesus washed the disciples feet and they shared in a meal which would become Communion aka the Eucharist), Good Friday (when he was crucified), Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday (when the women found the empty tomb).
Holy Saturday is that in-between day of waiting that many of us know so well. The day(s) we wait between a medical test and results, between a job interview and the offer (or not), even those seconds after a baby is born before that first shriek. Holy Saturday is a pause, and often not a pleasant one. In some Eastern Christian traditions, it is referred to as the Great Sabbath because it was the day Jesus’ body rested in the tomb. Others understand it to be the Hallowing of Hell where Jesus descended to Hell and broke down the gates forever.
Whether you are Christian or not, or however you understand the story of Easter, standing in the tension of something having begun but not knowing how it will be completed is something common in the human experience. Given the state of affairs at the moment, perhaps we are all situated in a Holy Saturday time in our lives right now - this pandemic is underway but none of us yet know what the weeks and months ahead will look like.
Join us on a sound/image meditation journey where we will rest and be reminded that even in times of great uncertainty and sorrow, we are held in love and the light is almost here.
